Whether you're seeking the full RV experience with complete hookups, prefer the simplicity of electric and water sites, or want to immerse yourself in nature at our secluded walk-in tent spots, you'll find your perfect basecamp here. Families love our cozy yurts and rustic cabins, while larger gatherings find their home in our spacious group camping areas. After a day of exploration, refresh with hot showers in our clean facilities, stock up on firewood for evening campfires, and grab ice for your cooler at our convenient camp store. Please note that some loops and facilities close seasonally to preserve the natural environment.
The campground offers diverse accommodations including primitive walk-in tent sites, RV camping with hookups, and group camping areas. Yurts and cabins are also available for those seeking more rustic lodging.
Historical SignificanceStand where Oregon was born. In 1843, pioneers gathered at this very spot to vote for the creation of Oregon's first provisional government, forever changing the American West. Today, thoughtfully placed interpretive displays invite you to walk in the footsteps of these early settlers, bringing their stories to life as you explore the grounds where crucial decisions shaped our nation's expansion.
Weather and SeasonsExperience Oregon's gentle seasons at Champoeg, where each time of year paints the landscape differently. Winter brings crisp 45°F days perfect for peaceful camping, with rare dustings of snow transforming the park into a quiet wonderland. As spring awakens the valley, temperatures climb into the comfortable 50s and 60s, making it ideal for hiking and exploration. Summer rewards visitors with glorious 70-80°F weather under mostly clear skies, perfect for riverside picnics and starlit evenings around the campfire.
Natural Features and SceneryDiscover a landscape where sweeping grasslands meet the mighty Willamette River, creating a tapestry of natural beauty that changes with every season. Ancient cottonwoods and willows line the riverbanks, providing shade and shelter for an abundance of wildlife. Watch great blue herons fish in the shallows, spot deer grazing in meadows at dawn, and listen to the chorus of songbirds that call this diverse ecosystem home. The interplay of open prairie, lush riparian corridors, and pocket forests creates endless opportunities for nature photography and peaceful contemplation.
Geological RegionNestled in Oregon's fertile Central Valleys Region, Champoeg showcases the rich diversity of the Willamette Valley ecosystem. This unique landscape blends expansive valley floors with intimate riparian corridors and scattered woodlands, creating a mosaic of habitats shaped by thousands of years of river dynamics and volcanic soil deposits that make this one of the most productive agricultural regions in North America.
