This isn't a camping trip. It's where families come alive.
The Surgeon General has declared loneliness an epidemic. Nature is the antidote, and public lands are the infrastructure. Outdoorithm Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and the sister organization to Outdoorithm, leading group camping experiences that reconnect families who've been shut out of the outdoors to the healing power of nature and community.
How it works: When you use Outdoorithm.com to find campgrounds, a portion of platform profits funds fully-supported camping trips through the Collective. Every search helps a family come alive.
Six dimensions of coming alive
Modern life has stripped away the things that make us human. OC restores six dimensions of flourishing simultaneously—all in community, on public land that belongs to everyone.
Rest
Circadian reset, fresh air, deep safety. Valencia slept to the sound of the ocean and called it the most restorative sleep she’d had in years.
Nourishment
Salmon, brisket, fresh vegetables—prepared together, eaten together. Cooking becomes communal care, not a chore.
Movement
Carry gear. Hike to the beach. Chase your kid. Climb a boulder. Every hour involves natural, purposeful movement woven into the fabric of being alive.
Land
Feet on earth. Stars above. Touching thousand-year-old redwoods. For families carrying generational exclusion from nature, the land connection heals.
Community
Real bonds. Strangers who become family in 48 hours. Kids calling adults “uncle” after knowing them for a day. Nobody solos.
Grit
The tent you figure out. The rain that won’t stop. The van stuck in a riverbank. On the other side of something hard is a deep satisfaction modern life rarely provides.
Our Mantras
Guiding principles that shape our community and outdoor philosophy
Leave Anyway
Breaking the gravitational pull of home
Perfect conditions never come. The to-do list never ends. Motion creates energy, not the other way around. Break the gravitational pull. Leave anyway.
Camp as It Comes
The mess is the point
Forgot the camp stove? Rain when you expected sun? That’s camping. Joy emerges from surrender, not control. We embrace whatever nature throws our way.
Nobody Solos
The myth of the lone adventurer
Three families converging to help with one tent in the wind—that’s how we show up. We build the village. Your wins are our wins. We were never meant to do this alone.
Dirt Don’t Hurt
The mess is the point
Small scrapes today build capable humans tomorrow. Comfort makes us fragile; challenges make us strong.
Take Up Space
Claiming presence in places that are already yours
Eyes down, polite nods, making yourself small—that’s the old habit. The new one? Engaging strangers, lingering at viewpoints, existing without apology. These public lands are equally yours. You belong here. Take up space.
I grew up in Alabama, in a city made famous for turning fire hoses on women and children and bombing churches… The thought of sleeping, resting in a place without a locked door seemed impossible. Outdoorithm has changed that for me and my family. During our first trip, we slept in the tent & I went to sleep to the sound of the ocean. It was the most restorative sleep I have had in years… Now, as I see my daughter climbing trees + running free through the camp with no shoes, I see a child with no fear, only joy. This is the dream each generation has had for their children.

Community Voices
Hear from families who found healing, belonging, and joy in nature, often for the first time
“To experience Blackness in nature is affirming. We are as varied as the trees in the forest.”
— Charmaine“There are very few times as a Black man that I feel comfortable in the woods. Being able to feel safe camping changes the narrative that being in the woods is not something ‘that Black people do.’”
— Carl“Camping with Outdoorithm was fun, easy, and very meaningful. I loved sharing this experience with a kind and inclusive group that centered community values.”
— Maab“Spending time with the Outdoorithm community this weekend was a marvelous experience connecting with old and new friends, reconnecting with nature, and finding restoration.”
— Karibu“This camping trip came at the right time. It gave me a chance to breathe, to let go a little. My grief still exists, but it feels a bit lighter and softened by memories.”
— Aftan“I forget how much good it does me to go out to nature. The connection I felt with other families was also a blessing. Knowing that we were doing the chores together is a huge relief.”
— Noe“This experience has inspired me to go deeper into community with others and to lean into and grow from the challenges that arise from doing life with others.”
— Michelle“I loved the feeling of being amongst truly kindhearted people. An environment with hearts that share true kindness makes for a safe and comfortable space.”
