About this campground

Step back in time at the Olallie Lake Guard Station Cabin, where hand-forged iron details and a stone chimney tell stories of craftsmanship from a bygone era. This lovingly preserved gem sits within the breathtaking Olallie Lake Scenic Area, inviting you to disconnect from modern life and reconnect with nature. Whether you're casting a line into pristine waters, paddling across mirror-like surfaces, or exploring miles of wilderness trails, this historic retreat serves as your gateway to authentic Pacific Northwest adventures.
Olallie Lake Guard Station Cabin provides a singular lodging option in the form of a historic rustic cabin dating back to the 1930s.
Historical SignificanceThese weathered walls have stood watch since the 1930s, when young men of the Civilian Conservation Corps carved this architectural treasure from the wilderness during America's Great Depression. Now proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the cabin embodies the enduring spirit of Forest Service craftsmanship. The area's name, 'Olallie,' whispers its Native American heritage through Chinook jargon, translating simply and beautifully to 'berry' – a nod to the wild abundance that has drawn people here for generations.
Weather and SeasonsMountain weather here dances to its own rhythm, with winter's grip sometimes lingering well into late spring, blanketing access roads in snow. When summer finally arrives, it brings gloriously mild days perfect for outdoor exploration, though savvy visitors come prepared for the occasional mosquito welcoming committee that thrives in this lush environment. Pack your bug spray alongside your sunscreen, and you'll be ready for whatever Mother Nature serves up.
ElevationPerched at nearly 5,000 feet where the air grows thin and crisp, this mountain sanctuary offers the kind of elevation that transforms landscapes and perspectives alike. Here, spring arrives fashionably late as winter snow clings to the high country, sometimes keeping the cabin wrapped in its white blanket well past when valley flowers bloom. This lofty perch rewards patient visitors with cooler summers and that unmistakable mountain clarity.
Natural Features and SceneryWake to jaw-dropping Cascade Mountain vistas where Mt. Jefferson's snow-capped peak dominates the horizon and Olallie Butte stands sentinel over pristine waters. The cabin's front-row seat to Olallie Lake offers ever-changing scenes as morning mist gives way to afternoon sparkle. Wildflowers paint the meadows in seasonal splashes of color while old-growth forests provide sanctuary for deer, eagles, and countless other creatures who call this wilderness home.
Geological RegionNestled in the heart of the Cascade Mountains, this cabin claims one of the most enviable addresses in the Olallie Lake Scenic Area. From your doorstep, the dramatic volcanic landscape unfolds – a testament to the powerful forces that shaped this region. The commanding presence of Mt. Jefferson to the south and the nearby Olallie Butte create a natural amphitheater, with the cabin enjoying a prime lakeside location that puts you at the center of this geological masterpiece.
