About this campground
Escape to Woodland Valley Campground, where towering peaks embrace a tranquil valley floor and adventure beckons from every direction. Here, at the gateway to some of the Catskills' most legendary summits—including the mighty Slide Mountain, rugged Cornell Mountain, and their neighboring peaks—campers discover a perfect basecamp for mountain exploration. Your tent or RV will rest beneath a canopy of ancient trees, with some lucky sites serenaded by the gentle murmur of a mountain stream that winds through the campground like nature's own lullaby.
Woodland Valley Campground caters to traditional tent camping and trailer camping, with options for group sites. All camping is relatively primitive, without modern hookups for RVs.
Historical SignificanceWhile the campground itself serves as a modern gateway to wilderness adventure, it sits within a landscape rich with untold stories of the Catskill Mountains' past, where generations of outdoor enthusiasts have sought solace and challenge among these ancient peaks.
Weather and SeasonsExperience the Catskills' ever-changing moods throughout the seasons at Woodland Valley. Summer brings blissful days with temperatures hovering in the comfortable 60s and 70s, perfect for hiking and campfire gatherings—though be prepared for the mountain's signature mists and refreshing rain showers that keep the forest lush and streams flowing. As autumn arrives, the valley transforms into a tapestry of gold and crimson. Winter adventurers will find a crystalline wonderland, though they should come prepared for the mountain's frosty embrace, with freezing temperatures and blankets of snow that transform familiar trails into magical winter pathways.
ElevationTucked into the protective embrace of the surrounding mountains, the campground offers a unique valley floor experience where campers can feel the dramatic rise of the peaks around them without the challenges of high-altitude camping.
Natural Features and SceneryImmerse yourself in a pristine wilderness sanctuary where towering hardwoods and evergreens create a living cathedral overhead. The campground's crown jewel, Woodland Valley Stream, dances through the property, its crystal-clear waters harboring native trout and creating peaceful pools perfect for quiet contemplation. From your campsite, gaze upward at the dramatic slopes of Slide Mountain—the Catskills' highest peak—while morning mist weaves through the forest canopy, creating an ever-changing tableau of natural beauty.
Geological RegionWoodland Valley Campground occupies a privileged position in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, cradled at the base of Slide Mountain—the range's 4,180-foot crown jewel. This remarkable location places you within striking distance of the legendary 'Catskill High Peaks,' including the formidable quartet of Slide, Panther, Cornell, and Wittenberg mountains. The surrounding landscape showcases millions of years of geological artistry, where ancient sedimentary rocks have been carved by time and water into the dramatic ridges and valleys that define this biodiversity hotspot. Dense forests cloak these peaks in emerald green, harboring everything from black bears to rare alpine plants, making every hike a journey through one of the Northeast's most ecologically rich regions.
