Best Time to Camp at Scrubjay Campground

Late fall through early spring delivers the best camping conditions. Daytime highs in the mid-60s to low-80s, cool nights in the 50s and 60s, low humidity, and fewer mosquitoes make this the season for comfortable hiking, biking, and paddling. Winter is also peak snowbird season, so expect higher campground demand and tougher reservations. Summer means intense heat, thick humidity, daily afternoon thunderstorms, and heavy mosquito and no-see-um activity. Doable if you don't mind sweating through your shirt before breakfast and treating bug spray as essential gear. Shoulder seasons in late October through November and March through April balance moderate temperatures and lighter insect pressure with slightly smaller crowds than mid-winter.

About Scrubjay Campground

Scrubjay Campground sits in the heart of Jonathan Dickinson State Park's ancient scrub habitat, a sandy ecosystem of saw palmetto, scrub oak, and open sky. The campground offers tent and RV sites with electric and water hookups, flush toilets, hot showers, and modern facilities. It's a rare spot where you can see threatened Florida scrub-jays from your campsite, then paddle the wild Loxahatchee River or hike miles of trails through pine flatwoods and coastal sandhills. All before lunch.
The park supports a mix of camping options systemwide, including developed family campgrounds with utilities, glamping (deluxe safari tents) and equestrian/primitive camping elsewhere in the park. Specific campground-type availability for 'Scrubjay' is supplemented by park materials indicating developed sites with utilities.
