About this campground

Deep in the heart of Florida's wilderness, Meg's Hole Hunt Camp offers a true back-to-basics experience for dedicated hunters seeking an authentic outdoor adventure. This primitive campground strips away modern conveniences to connect you directly with nature during hunting season. With no amenities or potable water available, visitors must come fully prepared and self-sufficient. Access requires proof of valid hunting permits, ensuring this remains a sanctuary for serious hunters pursuing their passion in untamed surroundings.
Meg's Hole Hunt Camp consists of primitive sites tailored for hunters and campers seeking a rugged, undeveloped experience. The lack of amenities makes it suitable for self-reliant campers.
Historical SignificanceWhile Richloam Wildlife Management Area may not bear historical markers or monuments, its true significance lies in its vital role as an ecological treasure. This protected landscape serves as a living testament to Florida's commitment to preserving wild spaces where native species thrive and traditional hunting practices continue to connect people with the land.
Weather and SeasonsThe campground enjoys Florida's characteristic dual personality when it comes to weather. During the cooler hunting months, visitors are treated to pleasantly dry conditions with moderate temperatures that make long days in the field comfortable. As summer approaches, the landscape transforms with rising humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms that replenish the lush wilderness, creating a dramatically different but equally captivating environment.
ElevationSituated on the characteristic flat terrain of Florida's Region 3, the campground offers easy navigation and accessible camping spots throughout. This level landscape, shaped by millennia of natural forces, provides an ideal setting for establishing base camp without the challenges of steep grades or difficult terrain.
Natural Features and SceneryEnveloped by the dense, verdant forests of Richloam Wildlife Management Area, Meg's Hole Hunt Camp immerses visitors in a world of towering trees and rich biodiversity. The surrounding woodland creates a natural cathedral where sunlight filters through the canopy and wildlife moves through ancient corridors. Respecting this pristine environment is paramount—cutting, marring, or defacing live trees is strictly prohibited to preserve this wilderness sanctuary for future generations.
Geological RegionNestled within the expansive Richloam Wildlife Management Area in Florida's Region 3, the campground occupies a fascinating geological landscape. This area showcases the subtle beauty of Florida's interior, where ancient flatlands meet thriving forest ecosystems. The level terrain tells a story of geological patience, creating an environment where dense woodlands flourish across seemingly endless horizons.
