About this campground

Perched at 6,800 feet in the remote southeastern reaches of Lassen Volcanic National Park, Juniper Lake Stock Corral offers adventurers a gateway to pristine wilderness. This rustic mountain retreat beckons those seeking solitude beside crystal-clear alpine waters, where days begin with sunrise fishing expeditions and end with starlit swims. Multiple trailheads fan out from this high-country basecamp, inviting exploration into volcanic wonderlands few visitors ever experience.
Juniper Lake Stock Corral is a specialized camping facility designed for groups with stock animals. It offers primitive camping amenities and emphasizes its suitability for equestrian use. The campground does not cater to RV or luxury camping but accommodates stock parties and tent camping.
Historical SignificanceYou're camping in the shadow of geological history at Lassen Volcanic National Park, where the southernmost active volcano in the Cascade Range tells a story millions of years in the making. Lassen Peak stands as a testament to the raw forces that shaped this landscape, its volcanic legacy written in every steaming fumarole and ancient lava flow that surrounds your campsite.
Weather and SeasonsSummer arrives fashionably late at this elevation, with winter's snow sometimes lingering into July before giving way to perfect alpine conditions. Expect crisp mountain mornings starting at 25-35°F that warm to comfortable 64-80°F afternoons ideal for outdoor adventures. The dry summer air carries the scent of sun-warmed pine, though afternoon thunderheads occasionally roll through, reminding visitors of nature's unpredictability. Pack layers—mountain weather writes its own rules here.
ElevationAt 6,800 feet above sea level, you'll wake to crisp mountain air that fills your lungs with pure alpine freshness. This elevated paradise offers natural air conditioning during summer's heat, though the thin air reminds flatlanders to pace themselves on those first few hikes. The altitude paints spectacular sunrises and sunsets across the volcanic peaks, rewarding early risers and evening wanderers alike.
Natural Features and SceneryImagine waking to mirror-like reflections of volcanic peaks dancing across Juniper Lake's pristine surface. This dramatic landscape showcases nature's extremes—from bubbling hydrothermal features to serene alpine meadows bursting with over 700 species of wildflowers. Ancient volcanic domes frame your views while curious wildlife, from soaring raptors to scurrying mammals, share this diverse ecosystem. Each trail reveals new wonders: steam vents, colorful mineral deposits, and panoramic vistas that stretch across three converging mountain ranges.
Geological RegionYour campsite sits at an extraordinary crossroads where three of California's great mountain ranges converge. Here, the volcanic Cascades meet the granite Sierra Nevada and the ancient Great Basin, creating a geological wonderland unlike anywhere else. Volcanic domes rise from forests, hydrothermal features bubble and steam, and diverse habitats support an incredible array of life. This unique junction has created microclimates and ecosystems that make every hike a journey through different worlds.
