About this campground

Nestled within the pristine Inyo National Forest, Holiday Campground offers a serene escape for those seeking authentic wilderness camping. This seasonal overflow haven features 35 thoughtfully dispersed campsites, each positioned to maximize privacy and communion with nature. Perfect for tent camping enthusiasts, the campground's natural, unhurried layout invites visitors to disconnect from the modern world and immerse themselves in the tranquility of the Eastern Sierra.
Holiday Campground primarily offers a mix of tent camping and overflow camping. It is described as having the feel of a dispersed area but with developed amenities like vault toilets and potable water.
Weather and SeasonsExperience the dramatic temperature swings that define mountain camping at Holiday Campground, where sun-drenched days give way to crisp, star-filled nights. The high-altitude climate delivers refreshingly cool evenings even during summer months, making that campfire gathering all the more inviting. Winter transforms the landscape into a snow-covered wonderland, though adventurers should note that roads remain unplowed during the snowy season, preserving the area's wild character.
ElevationPerched at 7,300 feet above sea level, Holiday Campground places you firmly in the high country, where the air is crisp and the views stretch endlessly across the Sierra Nevada landscape.
Natural Features and SceneryAncient Pinyon pines stand sentinel throughout Holiday Campground, their twisted branches creating natural shade canopies and framing spectacular mountain vistas. While nearby areas bear the marks of past wildfires—including rocks painted with fire retardant's distinctive red hue—the campground itself remains a pristine pocket of untouched wilderness. This rustic sanctuary offers campers an authentic backcountry experience, where the only sounds are wind through the pines and the occasional call of mountain wildlife.
Geological RegionHoliday Campground sits in the heart of the eastern Sierra Nevada, a dramatic geological wonderland where ancient granite peaks meet high desert ecology. The surrounding landscape tells a story of fire and renewal, with Pinyon pine forests demonstrating nature's resilience. Evidence of past wildfire management efforts, including retardant-marked rocks, serves as a reminder of the dynamic relationship between wilderness and conservation in this spectacular mountain region.
