About this campground

Escape to the untamed heart of Alaska at Plotnikof Lake Cabin, where true wilderness solitude awaits on the remote shores of Baranof Island. This secluded retreat, accessible only by floatplane, offers adventurous souls the chance to disconnect from civilization and immerse themselves in pristine backcountry. Whether you're casting a line into crystal-clear waters, tracking game through ancient forests, or exploring rugged hiking trails, this cabin serves as your gateway to authentic Alaskan wilderness experiences. Come prepared with all your supplies and an adventurous spirit—this is where self-reliance meets spectacular natural beauty.
Plotnikof Lake Cabin exclusively offers rustic cabin lodging within a remote wilderness setting, with no additional camping options.
Weather and SeasonsExperience Alaska's raw, invigorating climate where crisp mountain air and cool temperatures reign supreme, even during the summer months. While winter transforms the landscape into a frozen wonderland, the lake's icy surface makes access impossible during these months, preserving the cabin's availability for warmer-season adventures.
ElevationPerched at a modest 275 feet above sea level, the cabin's elevation creates a unique microclimate where coastal influences meet mountain air. This positioning can bring dramatic weather changes and affects seasonal accessibility, adding to the authentic wilderness experience that defines this remote retreat.
Natural Features and SceneryStep into a living postcard where shoulder-high thickets of wild brush create natural corridors through towering old-growth spruce and hemlock forests. In late summer, these verdant paths burst with ripe berries, offering sweet rewards for observant hikers. Beyond the cabin, dramatic waterfalls thunder down weathered granite slopes, their mist catching sunlight as they descend from snow-capped ridges that pierce the sky like ancient sentinels watching over this pristine landscape.
Geological RegionNestled within the breathtaking South Baranof Wilderness Area, the cabin sits amid a dramatic landscape sculpted by millennia of geological forces. This remarkable region showcases narrow, fjord-like lakes carved between towering granite slopes, all blanketed by dense old-growth forests of spruce and hemlock that have stood for centuries. Snow-capped ridges frame the horizon, creating a stunning amphitheater of wilderness that embodies the raw, untamed beauty of Southeast Alaska's island archipelago.

Fishing opportunities are seasonal and include rainbow trout in Plotnikof Lake and steelhead runs from mid-May to early June on the outlet stream. Coho salmon can be found from late August through September.
