About this campground
Escape to the edge of the world at North Beach Cabin, where an A-frame sanctuary awaits in the heart of the Tongass National Forest. This remote wilderness retreat beckons adventurers seeking authentic Alaskan experiences, from dawn fishing expeditions to twilight wildlife encounters. Here, rustic charm meets raw nature, offering a rare chance to disconnect from the modern world and immerse yourself in the rhythms of the coastal rainforest.
North Beach Cabin provides remote lodging accommodations tailored for those seeking solitude and outdoor recreational activities. It offers cabin-style lodging without electricity, water hookups, or sewer systems.
Historical SignificanceBorn from community spirit in 1993, North Beach Cabin stands as a testament to Alaskan cooperation. U.S. Coast Guard volunteers joined hands with local residents to raise this wilderness shelter, creating more than just a structure—they built a legacy of shared stewardship that continues to welcome visitors nearly three decades later.
Weather and SeasonsMother Nature rules supreme at North Beach, where weather transforms from gentle mist to dramatic downpours with little warning. During autumn visits, expect nature's full symphony—heavy rains drumming on the cabin roof, temperatures hovering between a crisp 48°F and mild 54°F, and winds gusting up to 28 mph that send waves crashing against the shore. Pack your rain gear and embrace the elements; this is Alaska at its most authentic, where weather becomes part of the adventure rather than an obstacle.
ElevationNestled at sea level where forest meets ocean, the cabin sits perfectly positioned to experience both marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
Natural Features and SceneryStep outside into a living postcard where ancient spruce and hemlock giants frame your view of the endless Gulf of Alaska. The cabin's front-row seat to nature's theater showcases cresting waves that paint the shoreline white with foam, while behind you, the emerald cathedral of old-growth forest whispers secrets in the wind. Sandy beaches stretch in both directions, offering miles of solitary walks where your only companions might be eagles overhead or the occasional sea otter playing in the surf.
Geological RegionPerched on the pristine shores of Kruzof Island within the vast Tongass National Forest, North Beach occupies a unique geological sweet spot. This corner of the world's largest temperate rainforest features surprisingly gentle terrain, where centuries of wind and waves have sculpted sandy beaches that contrast beautifully with the dense hemlock and spruce forest rising just beyond the tideline. It's a landscape shaped by the powerful forces of the North Pacific, yet offering unexpected pockets of sheltered tranquility.
