About this campground
Tucked away like a hidden gem in Wyoming's high country, Fiddlers Lake Campground offers an intimate escape with just 20 thoughtfully spaced campsites along the shores of a pristine mountain lake. This secluded retreat maintains an enchanting 'undiscovered' quality, where towering Lodgepole pines create natural privacy screens between sites. Whether you choose a walk-in tent site for the ultimate wilderness experience or one of the versatile RV/tent combination sites, you'll find yourself immersed in the tranquil rhythms of mountain life. Open from June through Labor Day, the campground welcomes visitors for stays up to 16 days—plenty of time to truly disconnect and recharge.
Fiddlers Lake Campground features a mix of camping options suitable for both tent and RV campers. The campground has 19 sites in total, including 4 tent-specific sites, 15 combined RV/tent sites, and 7 RV pull-throughs. Tent sites are walk-in and well-separated for privacy.
Historical SignificanceYour mountain basecamp serves as the perfect launching point for fascinating day trips into Wyoming's colorful past. Just a scenic drive away, the semi-ghost towns of South Pass and Atlantic City offer glimpses into the region's gold rush heritage, where weathered buildings and abandoned mines tell stories of fortune seekers and frontier dreams. These historical treasures provide a compelling contrast to your peaceful lakeside retreat.
Weather and SeasonsSummer brings the magic to Fiddlers Lake, with comfortable mountain temperatures perfect for hiking, fishing, and stargazing from June through Labor Day. The high-elevation climate delivers pleasantly warm days and refreshingly cool evenings that make for ideal sleeping weather in your tent or RV. Come winter, this alpine paradise transforms into a snow-locked wonderland, with heavy snowfall and arctic temperatures making the area inaccessible—nature's way of preserving this special place for the next camping season.
ElevationPerched at a breathtaking 9,400 feet above sea level, Fiddlers Lake Campground places you firmly in the realm of the clouds. This lofty elevation means crisp, clean air and spectacular night skies, but also requires some adjustment—take it easy your first day, stay hydrated, and let your body acclimate to the thin mountain air. The reward? Unparalleled alpine experiences and views that stretch for miles.
Natural Features and SceneryPicture yourself waking to mirror-like reflections on a tranquil mountain lake, where lily pads dot the surface and Brook and Rainbow trout create gentle ripples in the early morning light. The shallow waters of Fiddlers Lake are embraced by a cathedral of Lodgepole pines that stand as silent sentinels, their straight trunks creating a natural amphitheater around your campsite. This pristine pocket of the Shoshone National Forest offers the kind of unspoiled mountain scenery that photographers dream about and memories are made from.
Geological RegionNestled within the vast wilderness of Shoshone National Forest, Fiddlers Lake occupies a special niche in Wyoming's dramatic mountain landscape. This high-altitude basin, carved by ancient geological forces, now cradles a shallow alpine lake surrounded by dense stands of Lodgepole pine forest. The rugged mountain terrain creates a natural sanctuary where the modern world feels wonderfully distant, offering campers an authentic Rocky Mountain wilderness experience.
