Today, visitors become part of this ongoing story of preservation and appreciation for one of the American West's most dramatic landscapes.
Weather and SeasonsExperience the full spectrum of high-desert weather at Barry's Landing, where each season paints the canyon in different hues. Summer brings surprisingly cool conditions with highs hovering around a comfortable 33°F and crisp nights dipping to 19°F—perfect sleeping weather under a blanket of stars. Winter transforms the landscape into a stark wonderland, with snow dusting the canyon rims and creating a photographer's paradise for those brave enough to face the freezing conditions. Spring awakens the desert with occasional rain showers that bring brief bursts of wildflower color, while fall offers golden light and mild temperatures ideal for hiking and exploration.
ElevationPerched in Wyoming's captivating high-desert country, Barry's Landing offers the unique experience of canyon-rim camping where the thin, clear air enhances every sunset and makes the stars appear close enough to touch. This elevated desert environment creates perfect conditions for both dramatic temperature swings and spectacular atmospheric displays.
Natural Features and SceneryImmerse yourself in a landscape that defies expectations—where ancient forces carved deep canyons through layers of time, creating a natural amphitheater of rust-colored rock and sage-studded slopes. The sparse vegetation typical of high-desert environments allows unobstructed views of Bighorn Canyon's magnificent walls, while hardy plants like juniper and sagebrush perfume the air with their distinctive fragrances. This is wild country where black bears roam freely, golden eagles soar on thermal currents, and every sunrise reveals new patterns of light and shadow across the canyon walls. Food storage lockers at each site ensure safe coexistence with the local wildlife, allowing you to sleep soundly while nature's nocturnal symphony plays on.
