Best Time to Camp at Illahee State Park

Fall delivers mild weather, low crowds, and peak coastal wildlife activity. Daytime highs run 50–65°F in September and October, dropping into the 40s by late October. Cooler air makes beach walks, tidepooling, and shoreline birdwatching especially pleasant. Fall salmon and forage fish activity improves shore fishing. Trails quiet down after summer boat traffic dies off. Bring a rain layer for occasional Pacific Northwest showers. The waterfront kicks up a breeze year-round, so pack an extra layer for dock fishing and beach exploring.

    About Illahee State Park

Illahee State Park sits on Port Orchard Bay's shoreline, where old-growth forest meets Puget Sound. The campground has 43 sites for tents and RVs, with showers, flush toilets, and good cell service. Trails wind down a steep hillside to a beach with a dock and boat launch. Sites are close together, and road noise reaches some spots, but the waterfront access and tree canopy keep visitors coming back.
