About this campground

Tucked away on Lake Roosevelt's serene western shores, Snag Cove Campground offers an intimate escape with just nine coveted campsites. Eight of these prime spots face directly onto the sparkling waters, where mornings begin with the gentle lapping of waves and evenings end with stunning sunsets reflecting off the lake. This hidden gem welcomes both tent campers and RV adventurers, complete with a convenient boat launch, trailer parking, and courtesy dock for water enthusiasts. Despite its small size, Snag Cove has earned a devoted following among those seeking tranquility—arrive early during summer months, as word has spread about this peaceful retreat where the rush of modern life fades into the whisper of wind through pines.

Weather and SeasonsSummer transforms Snag Cove into a sun-drenched paradise, with temperatures soaring into the 90s by day before cooling to a comfortable 50 degrees under star-filled nights—perfect for campfire stories and s'mores. Winter brings a dramatic change as snow may dust the pine boughs and cold temperatures create a stark, beautiful landscape. Spring and fall serve as nature's wild cards, painting the campground with ever-changing conditions that can shift from warm sunshine to sudden showers. Natural Features and ScenerySnag Cove's magic lies in its perfect marriage of forest and water. Towering pines create a natural cathedral overhead, their branches filtering sunlight into dancing patterns on the forest floor. The campground hugs the Columbia River's transformed shoreline, where the creation of Lake Roosevelt has formed countless hidden coves and peaceful inlets. From your campsite, watch osprey dive for fish, spot deer coming to drink at dawn, and lose yourself in the ever-changing moods of the lake—from glassy calm mornings to afternoon whitecaps that beckon boaters and paddlers alike.
Geological RegionSituated within the dramatic Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area, Snag Cove occupies a unique position where ancient pine forests meet the engineered waters of the Columbia River. This landscape tells a story millions of years in the making—from volcanic eruptions and ice age floods that carved the surrounding terrain, to the more recent human history that transformed the wild Columbia into today's recreational paradise. The campground's boat launch area provides a gateway to exploring this vast reservoir, while the surrounding pine forest ecosystem offers a glimpse into the region's natural heritage that predates the lake itself.
