About this campground

Nestled beside the shimmering waters of Currant Creek Reservoir, this historic guard station has been transformed into a remarkable mountain retreat that welcomes up to 32 guests across its charming duplex cabins. Here, at the convergence of forest and water, adventurers find themselves perfectly positioned for days filled with casting lines into pristine waters, launching boats at dawn, or setting off on trails that wind through wildflower meadows and ancient forests. Modern comforts blend seamlessly with rustic charm, creating a basecamp where memories are made under star-filled skies.
The Currant Creek Guard Station provides cabin accommodations with modern amenities and RV trailer pads with hookups.
Weather and SeasonsSummer arrives gently at this mountain sanctuary, bringing warm days perfect for outdoor adventures, though the high altitude keeps even the hottest afternoons pleasantly cool. Mountain weather writes its own rules here—morning sunshine might give way to afternoon thundershowers that roll dramatically across the peaks before clearing to reveal stunning sunset skies. Evening temperatures drop noticeably, creating perfect conditions for gathering around campfires while wrapped in warm layers, sharing stories of the day's adventures.
ElevationPerched at 8,000 feet where the air is crisp and clear, this mountain refuge offers a natural escape from summer's heat. At this elevation, lungs fill with pine-scented air that feels refreshingly thin, stars shine with remarkable clarity, and afternoon clouds often drift at eye level. The altitude creates a perfect summer climate where wildflowers bloom in abundance and cool breezes whisper through the forest even on the warmest days.
Natural Features and SceneryA living tapestry of quaking aspens, stately firs, and towering lodgepole pines creates a verdant cathedral around the guard station, their branches filtering sunlight into dancing patterns on the forest floor. Summer transforms the understory into a painter's palette of wildflowers—Indian paintbrush, lupine, and columbine splash color across meadows and hillsides. Deer emerge from the forest at twilight to graze in nearby clearings, while bugling elk announce autumn's arrival. The reservoir mirrors the surrounding peaks in its calm waters, creating postcard-perfect reflections at sunrise and sunset.
Geological RegionDeep within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, this 8,000-foot sanctuary showcases the dramatic beauty of Utah's high country. Ancient geological forces sculpted these mountains into a landscape of soaring peaks and gentle valleys, now clothed in dense forests of aspen, fir, and lodgepole pine. Currant Creek Reservoir sparkles like a jewel in this mountain setting, its waters reflecting the surrounding peaks that stand as silent sentinels over this pristine wilderness. The terrain tells a story millions of years in the making, where glaciers once carved valleys and time has softened edges into the rolling, forested mountains visible today.
