About this campground
Step back in time at Pine Valley Guard Station, where the rustic charm of a 1935 Civilian Conservation Corps cabin meets the comforts of modern mountain living. Nestled deep within the Dixie National Forest, this historic hideaway offers the perfect blend of heritage and convenience, with electricity illuminating your evenings and indoor plumbing available during the warmer months. Here, you'll discover what it means to truly disconnect while staying connected to the essentials.
Accommodations primarily consist of cabin lodging, with a historic Civilian Conservation Corps-built Guard Station as the centerpiece.
Historical SignificanceThese weathered walls have stories to tell. Crafted by the skilled hands of the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, Pine Valley Guard Station once served as home base for recreation guards who welcomed and guided forest visitors during America's golden age of outdoor exploration. Today, you'll sleep where these early stewards of the wilderness once planned their days, surrounded by the same timeless forest they worked to protect.
Weather and SeasonsExperience the dramatic dance of seasons at 6,800 feet, where summer days invite you to explore sun-dappled trails before retreating to deliciously cool mountain evenings. When winter transforms the landscape into a pristine wonderland, the journey becomes part of the adventure—strap on snowshoes or lace up your boots for a magical trek through the snow to reach your cozy cabin retreat. Plan accordingly, as the seasonal gate closure from November through April adds an element of wilderness solitude to your winter escape.
ElevationPerched at 6,800 feet above sea level, Pine Valley Guard Station offers a natural air conditioning system that transforms even the warmest summer days into comfortable adventures. As evening falls, you'll reach for that extra blanket as mountain breezes whisper through the pines. Come winter, this elevation transforms your retreat into a snow globe scene, where every view becomes a postcard and the silence is broken only by the soft crunch of snow beneath your feet.
Natural Features and SceneryWake up to a symphony of wind through towering ponderosa pines, their vanilla-scented bark catching the morning light as it filters through the canopy. The majestic Pine Valley Mountains frame your view, creating a dramatic backdrop for your mountain memories. This enchanted corner of the forest showcases nature's full palette—from emerald summer meadows dotted with wildflowers to winter's crystalline artistry, all beneath the protective embrace of ancient pines.
Geological RegionDiscover your own private corner of the vast Dixie National Forest, where the Pine Valley Recreation Area unfolds like a living tapestry at 6,800 feet. Here, stately ponderosa pines share the landscape with lush mountain meadows that burst with color each summer, while stands of Engelmann spruce create shadowy groves perfect for afternoon exploration. This diverse ecosystem represents the best of Utah's high country, offering a geological wonderland where volcanic peaks meet ancient forests in perfect harmony.
