Best Time to Camp at Garfield Ridge Shelter
Summer offers daytime highs around 55-70°F and cool nights in the mid-30s to low-50s, roughly 15-20 degrees cooler than valley floors. Long daylight and stable weather make multi-day AT trips easier to plan, with morning mists burning off to reveal distant peaks. Weather changes quickly at this elevation. Snow patches can linger into May.
Summer is staffed, accessible and pleasant (cool nights); however it's busier then.
High-country New Hampshire foliage and ridge views likely excellent in fall (implied).
