About the campground

The campground stretches along the McKenzie River in a series of
overlapping loops through a lush riparian environment. Originally built by
the Civilian Conversation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, the campground is in
the middle of an old growth grove and has a wonderful lush, semi-sub-
tropical feel. Fern and other moisture loving plants cover the ground while
lichen and moss drape from the pleasant variety of trees including towering
grand old Douglas fir and cedar. A number of sites are on the river's edge -
perfect for watching passing rafters - while other sites are tucked back into
the woods. The pull-through sites have an overlapping, interwoven
configuration.
