About this campground

Step back in time at Meyers Creek Cabin, where rustic charm meets Montana wilderness in the heart of Custer Gallatin National Forest. Perched at 5,646 feet in the Beartooth Ranger District, this historic mountain retreat invites you to experience authentic Western hospitality amid sweeping pastures and whispering pine forests. Here, the modern world fades away, replaced by the timeless rhythm of mountain life.
Meyers Creek Cabin is primarily a cabin-style accommodation with modern amenities, offering a rustic yet comfortable camping experience. It does not feature primitive or tent camping options.
Historical SignificanceThis weathered cabin stands as a testament to Montana's pioneering spirit, its farmhouse architecture echoing the dreams of early homesteaders who carved their lives from these rugged mountains. Every hand-hewn beam and weathered plank tells a story of resilience and connection to the land. Visitors often find themselves captivated by the cabin's authentic charm, where the ghosts of the past seem to whisper through the wooden walls, sharing tales of a simpler, more connected way of life.
Weather and SeasonsSummer transforms this mountain sanctuary into a sun-drenched paradise, where temperatures hover at a perfect 76°F during the day before cooling to a crisp 53°F under star-filled nights. As autumn arrives, the landscape erupts in a symphony of gold and crimson, painting the mountainsides with nature's finest palette. While rain showers occasionally dust the wildflowers, most days unfold under brilliant blue skies that stretch endlessly across the Montana horizon.
ElevationAt 5,646 feet above sea level, the cabin rests in the embrace of the majestic Beartooth Mountains, where the air is crisp and clean, and every breath feels like a gift from the alpine gods. This elevated perch offers a perfect balance—high enough to escape summer's heat, yet accessible enough for comfortable mountain adventures.
Natural Features and SceneryThe landscape unfolds like a living canvas around Meyers Creek Cabin, where cattle-dotted pastures give way to hillsides draped in pine and dancing aspen groves. In summer, carpets of wildflowers transform the meadows into nature's own impressionist painting, while sagebrush adds its signature silver-green brushstrokes to the scene. This vibrant ecosystem plays host to an incredible cast of wildlife—majestic bighorn sheep navigate rocky outcrops, elk bugle across the valleys, deer emerge at twilight's edge, and countless birds fill the air with mountain melodies.
Geological RegionNestled in the western reaches of the legendary Beartooth Mountains, the cabin sits at the crossroads of diverse ecosystems. Ancient geological forces have sculpted this landscape into a masterpiece of rolling pastures and timbered slopes, where centuries-old pines stand sentinel over meadows that have sustained both wildlife and cattle for generations. The unique blend of sagebrush steppe and mountain forest creates a tapestry of textures and colors that changes with each passing season.
