Learn more about alerts →Beach campers who want something wilder than a typical shore campground. Fall visits, after Labor Day, shed the bugs and crowds while horses are active and surf fishing picks up. Loop H has electric hookups and sits close to the ocean and paved bike paths.
Tent campers without a serious wind-resistant setup will struggle. Spring and summer bring relentless biting flies, exposed sandblasted sites, and enough horse traffic to raid any unsecured food. No water or sewer hookups at any site, and cell service is unreliable.

Mosquitoes and biting flies largely disappear after Labor Day, and crowds thin substantially after the holiday. September into October brings migrating shorebirds, active horses, and peak surf and bay fishing. Summer means bugs that persist until the first hard freeze. Wind blows steadily year-round and picks up in spring. Expect sand everywhere regardless of season.
