About this campground
Perched high above the shimmering waters of Rampart Reservoir, Meadow Ridge Campground offers an intimate mountain escape with just 19 sites tucked beneath towering ponderosa pines. Here, adventure beckons at every turn—cast a line into the reservoir's pristine waters, explore winding mountain bike trails, or set out on foot to discover hidden alpine treasures. As evening falls, settle into your forest sanctuary and watch as the legendary silhouette of Pikes Peak catches the last rays of sunset, painting the sky in brilliant hues of orange and purple.
Meadow Ridge Campground provides standard nonelectric campsites. These include space for tent camping and RVs/trailers up to 36 feet in length. The campground is ideal for those seeking a serene setting amidst a ponderosa pine forest.
Historical SignificanceYour camping adventure places you in the shadow of Colorado's most storied summit—Pikes Peak, the majestic 14,115-foot giant that has captivated explorers since Edwin James first reached its windswept summit in 1820. This 'America's Mountain' served as inspiration for 'America the Beautiful' and continues to draw adventurers from around the world, making your campsite a basecamp steeped in the pioneering spirit of the American West.
Weather and SeasonsSummer days at Meadow Ridge bring crisp mountain air and comfortable temperatures, with afternoon highs reaching a pleasant 70°F before cooling to a refreshing 47°F under star-filled nights. The high country's dramatic afternoon thunderstorms roll through with nature's own light show—a spectacular sight from the safety of your campsite, though outdoor adventurers should plan morning activities to avoid lightning risks. When winter's snow blankets the peaks, the campground enters its quiet season, with access roads closing to preserve this pristine wilderness until spring's return.
ElevationAt 9,200 feet above sea level, Meadow Ridge Campground invites you into Colorado's authentic high country experience. This lofty perch offers cooler temperatures and clearer skies, though the thin mountain air demands respect—take your first day easy, drink plenty of water, and let your body adjust to the altitude. Soon you'll be breathing deeply of the pine-scented air and feeling the exhilaration that comes with camping among the clouds.
Natural Features and SceneryNature's artistry surrounds you at Meadow Ridge, where ancient ponderosa pines stretch skyward, their vanilla-scented bark glowing amber in the morning light. The forest opens into sun-dappled meadows where wildflowers dance in the breeze, while stands of quaking aspen, Douglas fir, and spruce create a rich tapestry of greens. From select campsites, glimpse the sapphire expanse of Rampart Reservoir through the trees, with the commanding presence of Pikes Peak standing sentinel over this pristine mountain landscape.
Geological RegionNestled within Colorado's iconic Front Range, Meadow Ridge Campground showcases the Rocky Mountains' diverse ecosystems at their finest. This 9,200-foot haven sits in the heart of a mature ponderosa pine forest, where the landscape transitions beautifully between open grass meadows dotted with wildflowers and dense groves of spruce, Douglas fir, and shimmering aspen. It's a living classroom of mountain ecology, where each elevation zone tells its own story of adaptation and survival in the high country.
